DMSO treatment decreases the mRNA expresion of the fatty acid synthetic and oxidation genes acetyl‐CoA carboxylase alpha (ACC1), acetyl‐CoA carboxylase beta (ACC2), diacylglycerol O‐acyltransferase 1 (DGAT1), diacylglycerol O‐acyltransferase 2 (DGAT2), fatty acid synthase (FAS), and stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) in a time‐dependent manner in HepG2 cells. Data presented are mean ± SD of n = 3 experiments performed in triplicate, *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001, control versus day of DMSO treatment. The relative expression ratio was calculated using the following: Ratio = ΔCt_[target]/ΔCt_[ref] (Pfaffl 2001) and expression values were normalized to 18 sec.
