A) A scar differentiates in the ischemic portion of the heart. b) Cx43 (green) is localized to the IDs in remote myocardium. c) Fibroblasts (blue) interrupt normal myocyte (red) connections in the IBZ adjacent to the scar and Cx43 reorganizes away from the IDs. Cx43 is often found between myocytes and fibroblasts. d) Punctate Cx43 is found within the scar.
