Scheme 1. General Scheme for the Proposed Mechanism of the CuAAC Reactiona.

Scheme 1

aA reducing agent is first used to reduce Cu(II) to Cu(I) followed by Cu(I) catalysis of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition. Various photoreduction methodologies have been developed to enable photochemical control of the Cu+1 generation.
