Mode of production of heteroclitic (top) or of authentic anti-poly(ADP-ribose) antibody (bottom) by oligo(ADP-ribosyl)ated histone (top) or by poly(ADP-ribosyl)ated histone (bottom). Here, histone H1 is shown as a representative. Antibody induced even by oligoADP-ribosylated histone preferred poly(ADP-ribose) but not oligomer of ADP-ribose (top). Whereas antibody induced or produced by poly(ADP-ribose) preferred the relevant antigen poly(ADP-ribose) but not oligomer of ADP-ribose (bottom). That is why the former is “Heteroclitic”.
