31P NMR spectra of WTA before and after the addition of low-MW BPEI (A and B) show significant changes in phosphate chemical shift caused by changes in the chemical environment. These changes are also manifested in the heteronuclear multiple-bond correlation (HMBC) spectra (C and D). The P-31 signals near 4 ppm are correlated with the proton signals of NAG sugar groups. However, clear identification of specific interactions is prevented by the heterogeneous nature of WTA functional groups, BPEI branching, and WTA:BPEI binding interactions.
