(B and C) Anaerobic growth of NM can be rescued by addition of the CoA precursor pantothenate in rich medium containing ’882 (B) or carbon-limited medium containing glycerol (C) as the primary carbon source, ’882, and nitrate as the terminal electron acceptor.

Error bars represent SEM from data combined from at least three independent experiments with n > 3 for each. For (A), *p < 0.05, ***p < 0.001, calculated by one-way ANOVA with Sidak correction for multiple comparisons. For (B) and (C), **p < 0.01, calculated by Student’s t test comparing the absence or presence of pantothenate. See also Figure S3.
