The eyes of WT (C57BL/6) (n = 6) and AMPKα KO mice (n=6) were infected with S. aureus (500 cfu/eye). At the indicated time points, infected eyes were subjected to retinal function testing by ERG (B), bacterial load estimation (A), and ELISA for pro-inflammatory cytokines expression for IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 (C) as described in previous figure legends. The data presented as mean ± SD of three independent experiments. Statistical analysis was performed using Student’s t-test by comparing WT and AMPK KO mice. *p <0.05, **p <0.001, ***p <0.0001.
