Ultrastructure of the capillaries in the hippocampus CA1 region in neonatal mice of the (a, c) control and (b, d) sevoflurane exposure groups. In the control group (a, c), the capillaries were continuous and integrated (black arrows), and the perivascular spaces were normal. In comparison, the ultrastructural integrity of the BBB appeared to be disrupted (black arrows) as a result of enlarged perivascular spaces after 6 h of sevoflurane exposure (b, d).
