The antiplasmodial activity of the compounds was tested in the presence of pantetheinase in medium containing 1 μM (black circles) or 100 μM pantothenate (gray circles). The white circles show cytotoxicity screens performed against HFF cells using concentrations (up to 100 μM) much higher than those required to inhibit parasite growth (IC50 = 55 nM to 0.54 μM). The data are averaged from three independent experiments, each carried out in triplicate, and the error bars represent SEM.
