Susceptibility of S. mutans isolates to ClyR. Reference as well as clinical S. mutans isolates representing several serotypes were washed once with PBS and resuspended to a final OD₆₀₀ of 0.8 to 1.2. After the cells were treated with 25 μg/ml of ClyR at 37°C for 20 min, lytic activity was quantified by determination of the net change in the OD₆₀₀, obtained by subtraction of the OD₆₀₀ for treated cells from the OD₆₀₀ for PBS-treated control cells. Experiments were done in triplicate, and the error bars show the standard deviations.
