Fig 2. In vitro effect of CUR on the viability of adult S. mansoni worms with emphasis on changes in the motor activity of the worms.

Fig 2

Couples of adult worms were incubated with different concentrations of CUR for 6, 12, or 24 h. The viability of separated adult (A) female and (B) male S. mansoni worms was monitored by using a viability scale of 0–3 (3 = totally vital, normally active, 2 = slowed activity, 1 = minimal activity, 0 = worm death—death was defined as no movement being observed for at least 2 min of examination). In the negative control groups, couples of adult worms were incubated with RMPI 1640 medium or with RPMI 1640 medium with 0.1% DMSO. In the positive control groups, couples of adult worms were incubated with PZQ (1.56 μM). Values are expressed as the mean ± S.E.M of three independent experiments. An asterisk indicates statistically significant differences as compared to the negative control group (RPMI 1640 medium with 0.1% DMSO) (***p < 0.001).
