Hyperinsulinemic, euglycemic, isoaminoacidemic clamp protocol. Infusion of tracers was performed in the postabsorptive state, followed by the clamp period. Insulin infused at a constant rate, and glucose and the amino acid solution (TrophAmine) at feedback regulated rates based on frequent blood sampling. Both stages are of durations required to achieve the predetermined steady-state concentrations and isotopic enrichment for kinetics calculations. Samples of blood and expired air were obtained at times indicated by the vertical arrows, and indirect calorimetry during the periods indicated by the horizontal bars.
