The retina is arranged in different layers of cells, from the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), the outer nuclear layer (ONL), the outer plexiform layer (OPL), the inner nuclear layer (INL), the inner plexiform layer (IPL), and the ganglion cell layer. The retinal layers harbor five retinal neurons, such as, the rod and cone photoreceptors, the Műller glia, the horizontal cell, the bipolar cell, the amacrine cell, and the retinal ganglion cell (RGC).
