Nanoparticles can target to the specific cells or processes in the atherosclerotic lesions. The molecular or functional targets include macrophage scavenger receptors, macrophage phagocytosis, reactive oxygen species, proteases, annexin V for apoptosis, αvβ3 for neoangiogenesis, adhesion molecules and others.
