Based on input from experts, patients and the literature, symptom domains are identified that are thought to be important to major depressive disorder. The Working Groups identify the constituent symptoms based on conventional definitions and clinical and scientific opinion. Interview questions are then developed for field testing within each of these narrowly defined symptoms.
