Each number shows lysogen efficiency (%). Cells were grown, singly infected, and plated on kanamycin plates without or with 10-4 M IPTG (see Materials and Methods). Lysogenization by wild-type λ after single infection is very inefficient (Kourilsky 1973); it is much more efficient after multiple infection.
