Paclitaxel release from aligned microfibers modulates neurite extension as visualized by immunostaining for neurofilament. Neurite extension was quantified from isolated DRGs cultured on PLA fibers only (A), 0.02% PTX (B), 0.58% (C), and 3.26% (D). A small incorporation of paclitaxel (0.02%) promoted a significantly greater increase in neurite extension than fibers without paclitaxel and fibers with higher concentrations of paclitaxel (E).
