In the first year, the following costs are incurred: episode cost of TAVI procedure, which includes (1) the cost of the device, the procedure and procedure-related adverse events; (2) the cost of treatment for major stroke (hospitalization and follow-up costs), if incurred; and (3) the cost of adverse events after the procedure, if incurred. In the subsequent years, the following costs are incurred: the cost of treatment of a new major stroke event, if incurred; the cost of follow-up for a major stroke event if it happened in the previous year; and treatment cost for adverse events, if incurred.
