The neurons in the hypothalamus could sense peripheral tissue activity, independently modulate autonomic nervous system output, affect different peripheral organs, and control energy balance. Nutrient malabsorption, gut hormone changes, peripheral insulin sensitivity improvement and changes in the gastrointestinal bacteria community are also the possible contributors to the amelioration of T2DM after surgery.
