Mean fluorescence intensities ± SEM in the barrel and septal columns are shown. We extended the barrel and septal columns to L2/3, and measured the immunofluorescence intensities for VGluT1, VGluT2 and VGAT in the upper, middle and lower parts of L2/3 by dividing into 3 bins. Mean immunofluorescence intensities in the barrel column were standardized as 1 AU. Whereas immunofluorescence intensities for VGluT2 and VGAT were higher in barrel than in septa of L4, those in the barrel and septal columns of L2/3 were not significantly different.
