Experiment 1 to 3: 20 infected mosquitoes were allowed to feed on naive C57BL/6 mice. Experiment 4 and 5: 5 × 105 sporozoites isolated from the midguts of infected mosquitoes 18 days p.b.f. were injected intravenously in the tail vein of C57BL/6 mice.
*Pre-patent: the time between sporozoite inoculation and the appearance of parasites in the blood (days).
