^aMacrophages maintained at 4 or 37°C were incubated with syringed or sonicated M. tuberculosis. The percentage of macrophages binding at least one bacterium or more than 10 bacteria and the number of bacteria associated with each infected macrophage was assessed for two experiments, representing a total of six replicate coverslips.
