Influence of the starting frequencies of non-focal alleles on the trajectories of the focal allele. Simulations were performed for default parameter settings (Table 1) apart from the starting frequency of the remaining four, non-focal alleles contributing to the trait specified in the inset of each subfigure (ac). Plots show the frequency of the focal allele across replicates. The left panel shows the trajectories of 500 replicate simulations summarized in violin plots, black dots indicate the median. The right panel shows individual trajectories of the focal alleles for 10 randomly chosen replicates. Higher starting frequencies of non-focal alleles reduce the initial increase of the focal allele and increase its probability of subsequent loss.
