Drone honey bees that were unable to fly could be found attached to the hive near the entrance or crawling on the ground in front of the hive. Bacterial culture of the hemolymph from these drones revealed Ss1 in high concentration (9.5 x 10e9 +/-1.9 x 10e9 cfu/ml, n = 16). Unlike SIW, these SID were observed intermittently during warm seasons (>16°C).
