Symbol Meanings

Symbol Meaning
S The study angle in degrees.
R The response angle in degrees.
PM Probability that the tested item is in WM.
PO Probability that a memory item is continuous in nature. 1 – PO is the probability that a memory item is categorical in nature.
σ O Continuous WM imprecision in degrees (1precision). Serves the same function as the WM imprecision parameter in the ZL model.
μ k The category center of the kth category.
ψ k An indicator of whether or not the kth category is active, i.e. used by the participant. Is equal 1 if the category is active, 0 otherwise.
σ S Category (in)selectivity. Lower values result in more abrupt transitions between categories for the weights function.
σ A Categorical WM imprecision (1precision): Determines how close a categorical response it to the category center.
PAG Probability of a categorical guess (versus a uniform guess).
V(x, μ, σ) Probability density function of the von Mises distribution for observation x with center μ and precision 1/σ2 (i.e., we have parameterized V in terms of, roughly speaking, standard deviation rather than precision).
