(c) Valence band (VB) over a narrow range of energy and k-values close to the Γ-point of the Brillouin zone for L = 1 and 5 layers. The insets show contour plots of the VB energy dispersion in the k-plane centred at Γ. For L = 1 layer, the valence band comprises of six maxima that are arranged in a circle around Γ; this anisotropy is not observed for L = 5 layers. (d) Dependence on L of the energy splitting, ΔE, between the VB maximum and the VB edge at Γ.
