The ΔccpA mutant showed a decrease in colony size and a reduction in growth rate. (A) On solid media colonies, the deletion mutant appeared clearly smaller than the parental strains. The glucose concentration seemed to have only a minor influence on colony size; (B) In liquid media, S. carnosusTM300 ΔccpA also showed a growth defect compared to the wild type strain. In both cases, the effect could be complemented. The influence of the glucose concentration in both experiments was negligible. (Bar size: 2 mm; Glc: glucose).
