Recognition of signals from pathogens and elicitors activates OsRac1, which in turn induces NADPH oxidase-mediated ROS production. In parallel to ROS production, the expression of the ROS scavenger OsMT2b gene is down-regulated, thereby potentiating ROS accumulation and defense signaling.
