Figure 4.

Immunoblot of SDS-PAGE of extracts of D. glomerata leaves, nodules, and roots, showing the subunits of GS detected by a polyclonal antibody raised against the Phaseolus vulgaris enzyme. The nodules marked “1” were 6 weeks old; the nodules marked “2” were 12 weeks old. The molecular masses (kD) at the left represent the positions of serum albumin, ovalbumin, and carbonic anhydrase run on the same electropherogram, blotted onto the same membrane, then cut off and stained separately. The amounts of protein loaded on each lane were: leaves, 44.2 μg; nodules 1, 33.2 μg; nodules 2, 33.0 μg; and roots, 9.75 μg. Each lane represented the extract from the following weight of tissue: leaves, 4.8 mg; nodules 1, 4.2 mg; nodules 2, 4.2 mg; and roots, 9.5 mg.
