Cholesterol is required for assembly and release of progeny virions. (A) Cells either untreated or treated with the drugs were infected with SeV or hPIV1 and labeled with 35S-Met/Cys for 16 h. Released SeV and hPIV1 virions were purified and analyzed by SDS-PAGE. (B) Labeled virions were ultracentrifuged through a continuous (5–50%) sucrose gradient. Viral proteins in each fraction were analyzed by SDS-PAGE and autoradiography. Fractions 2–4 include progeny virions.
