Both Akt and ERK1/2 signaling pathways mediated the protective effect of NGF in RGC-5 cells.

RGC-5 cells pretreated with PI3K inhibitor LY294002, Akt inhibitor VIII or ERK1/2 inhibitor PD98059 were treated with NGF and PA for 24 hours. Cell viability was determined by the MTT assay. Data are expressed as a percentage of the corresponding control, which was set at 100%. Results are shown as the mean ± SEM and represent assays from three independent experiments (n = 6, one-way analysis of variance and least significant difference post hoc test). #P < 0.05, vs. PA group; †P < 0.05, vs. NGF + PA group.
