Gametocyte sex ratios (proportion male) of mixed vs. single clone infections compared with their corresponding haematocrits (red blood cell density) measured on the same day of infection. Each individual infection was measured daily for both these parameters until either the host died or the infection was cleared by the host (thus until the peak of infection). Thai or SL clone alone, 8 infective mosquitoes per bird; Mixed infections were initiated using 8 or 4 infective mosquitoes from batches of mosquitoes infected with either of the clones.
