The conservation of a phosphorylatable residue (S or T) in paralogs and putative orthologs of phosphorylated transporters was analyzed. Phosphoproteins were grouped into families according to PlantsT (http://plantst.sdsc.edu/). Proteins listed in the Aramemnon database (http://aramemnon.botanik.uni-koeln.de/) as isospecific homologs of the phosphoprotein with at least 30% similarity were called protein family. Under the heading Conservation within Protein Family, the number of family members that share the phosphorylation site is listed. Under the heading Conservation among Putative Orthologs, (+) denotes one BLAST hit in the EST database with conserved phosphorylation site; + denotes two or more hits; n.f., no ambiguous ortholog was found in the EST databases.
