Islets from non‐obese diabetic (NOD) RAG females were isolated and cultured for 3 days in the absence of glutamic acid or 1 mm glutamic acid or 5 mm glutamic acid. (a) TUNEL (green) staining was used to detect islet cell apoptosis. Hoechst (red) was used to stain the DNA.
