The effect of stress on the number of perisomatic inhibitory neurons in the dorsal hippocampus. The two major subpopulations of perisomatic inhibitory neurons were quantified: (A) parvalbumin+ and (B) cholecystokinin+ neurons. Note that stress significantly reduced the number of PV+ neuron numbers in all hippocampal subareas, while CCK+ neurons were not affected by stress.
