a

The epithelial cell lines and primary immune cells were cultured with concentrations of products or placebos for 24 h. After washing, culture viability was determined by using the Cell-Titer-Glo assay according to the manufacturer's instructions. The values given are the ratios of the concentrations of the products or placebos that resulted in ≥60% culture viability to the concentrations of the original formulations.

b

Nontoxic concentration of Carraguard was determined by trypan blue exclusion.

c

ND, not determined.
