FIGURE 8: — p120 guards against multiple internalization signals. (A) Displacement of p120 from VE-cadherin by an unknown mechanism unmasks an endocytic motif in the cadherin juxtamembrane domain. This motif drives constitutive VE-cadherin endocytosis, which confers plasticity to the endothelial adherens junction. (B) K5 targets VE-cadherin for ubiquitination, displaces p120 from the cadherin, and induces VE-cadherin endocytosis and down-regulation. K5-induced VE-cadherin endocytosis does not require the constitutive endocytic motif.
