Model of proposed mechanism for the governance of endothelial cell inflammatory responses by GPR4. GPR4 can be activated by protons in the acidic microenvironment and increase the expression of adhesion molecules and chemokines for the recruitment and adherence of leukocytes to the endothelium. Increased leukocyte extravasation will occur into the inflamed tissue and potentiate local inflammation.
