The three sample types are shown: inhalant, exhalent, and off reef seawater. The red vase-like sponges represent Ircinia campana and the gray sponges represent Spheciospongia vesparium. The numbers of samples collected for each sample type are shown. For inhalant and exhalent samples, one sample type was collected from each of three individuals. Reef seawater samples were collected near the surface approximately 300 m from the reef area. Arrows represent direction of water flow and color is associated with samples representing each sponge species in later figures.
