Representative histology images of (A) normal pancreatic tissue, (B) chronic pancreatitis (inflammation), and (C) adenocarcinoma. Histopathological analysis shows increased stromal collagen (light pink stain) in adenocarcinoma and chronic pancreatitis (relative to normal pancreas), as well as morphological changes in cell nuclei (purple stain) in adenocarcinoma (relative to both normal pancreas and chronic pancreatitis). These biochemical and morphological changes in diseased tissues provide a useful source of endogenous contrast for optical disease detection in the pancreas. Scale bar = 50 µm.
