During the hypervolemic infusion, each animal was infused with enough material to increase its plasma protein concentration to 0.5 g/dL, then given 30 minutes to recover. This process was repeated twice, ones to increase its protein concentration to 1.0 g/dL and then to 1.5 g/dL.
