Dependence of translocation on elongation factor concentration. Pretranslocation Zwittergent 3–12 complexes were incubated with different amounts of EF2 for 1 min at 30°C and the extent of translocation was determined by reaction with 2 mM puromycin for 4 min at 30°C. The concentrations of EF2 at which 50% translocation was achieved were 0.070 μM for the rdnwt strain (circles) and 0.025 μM for the rdn5 strain (triangles), respectively.
