Number of primitive progenitors is reduced and short-term radioprotection ability is moderately compromised in Gfi1-deficient mice. (A) For CFU-S, 5 × 104 Wt or Gfi1−/− bone marrow cells were injected into lethally irradiated (9.6 Gy) recipients (10 mice for each group). Mice were killed 8 or 12 days later and their spleens were fixed in Tellesniczky's fixative for macroscopic examination. Spleen colonies are shown; the size and numbers of day 12 CFU-S but not day 8 CFU-S colonies were significantly reduced when Gfi1-deficient bone marrow was transplanted.
