B‐cells fail to accumulate in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) spleen and circulating lymphocyte count is reduced. B‐cell marker CD45R (green) demonstrates clusters of B‐cells have begun forming follicles in mid‐ (P5)‐ and late‐symptomatic (P8) control spleens, but not in mid‐ to late‐symptomatic SMA spleens where B‐cells are absent. Circulating lymphocyte counts were significantly decreased in SMA mice (SMA n = 4, control n = 4; ** P < 0.005). Scale bar: 100 μm.
