Figure 1

Establishment of a rat model of spinal cord injury (SCI).

(A) Modified Allen's weight-drop apparatus made of stainless steel, with a pouching rod of 3.0 mm diameter and adjustable height. The device precisely measures the movement of a 5 g rod dropped 80 mm onto the T9–10 spinal cord exposed by laminectomy. (B) Before SCI, the spinal cord was smooth; after SCI, the spinal cord was congested (black arrow). (C) After SCI, rats in the SCI and EA groups showed hind limb dyskinesia, while hind limb movement was normal in the sham group (laminectomy only). EA: Electroacupuncture.
