Double fluorescent labeling TUNEL (green) and NeuN (red) showed the protective effects of carvacrol on ethanol-induced neuronal impairment of the hippocampal CA1 region in C57BL/6 mice. (a) Representative photographs of TUNEL and NeuN staining in different groups. TUNEL-positive cells were barely detected in the saline group. In the ethanol group, the apoptotic cells increased markedly compared with the saline group.
