The strong positive relationship between the mitochondrial content of breast muscle and thigh muscle. Birds with high mitochondrial content in one muscle tissue also tend to have high content in the other muscle tissue (Pearson correlation coefficient 0.61; P<0.0001). The spread across the population in terms of both breast and thigh muscle mitochondrial content fold change is substantial (∼fivefold).
