Different orientations of 3D surface reconstructions from a manually-segmented 3D dataset with a nominal resolution of 15.6 × 15.6 × 30.0 µm3. The segmented brain structures are the optic lobes of Apis mellifera with medulla and lobula (yellow), the antennal lobes (green), the peduncles and β-lobes (light red), the α-lobes (light red), the paired calyces (red), the lateral ocelli (pink), median ocellar tract (grey), optic tubercles (light blue) and the compound eyes (brown). The different angles under which the surface reconstructions are shown provide a good impression of bee brain's stereo geometry.
