Segments of homologous genes were identified by locating blocks of BLAST hits (E-value 1 × 10−10) containing at least ten syntenic genes with less than six intervening sequences between them. The 4DTv distances between these paralogous/orthologous genes from these segments are illustrated. (B) A maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree of Euphorbiaceae species, with black cottonwood as an outgroup, based on orthologs of single-gene families. The numbers at each node display bootstrap values. The divergence time was calibrated to 58 MYA (thick black bar) using fossil evidence from Magallon et al. (1999)55.
