(a) Percentage growth inhibition of P. falciparum cultured in red blood cells from griseofulvin-treated subjects. Parasite growth assays were performed on red blood cells collected from three subjects taking 1,000 mg griseofulvin/day (E1, E2 and E3) and one subject after a single 2,000 mg dose (E4). Parasites were cultured for 48 h. Data represent the percent growth inhibition determined in samples collected 1, 2, 3 and 4 days after initiating the treatment, and mean (horizontal line). Each sample was assayed twice. (b) Concentrations of griseofulvin in plasma and red blood cells of the same griseofulvin-treated subjects. Dashed lines indicate the time-point when dosing with griseofulvin ceased. Data represent the mean of duplicate assays.
